The CHTC ‘Strategic Leadership in Practice’ Programme
Leads to an ILM Level 7 Qualification in Leadership and Management, awarded by the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM).
This qualification is designed for senior leaders and those aspiring to strategic roles, offering the opportunity to develop high-level leadership capability through applied, workplace-based learning.
Once you’ve completed the necessary taught modules and selected your qualification size (Award, Certificate or Diploma), you’ll begin working towards your assignments.
Depending on your career objectives and time commitment, you can choose from the following qualification sizes:
- Award: A focused introduction to key strategic leadership concepts. Ideal for those looking to develop knowledge in a specific area of strategic management.
- Certificate: A broader exploration of strategic leadership practices, building on the Award with additional units that deepen your understanding and application of strategy at a senior level.
- Diploma: The most comprehensive option, equipping you with a full suite of strategic management and leadership capabilities. Ideal for senior leaders or aspiring executives looking to lead organisational change and long-term strategic direction.
Here’s what’s involved:
1. Written Assignments
Depending on the size of the qualification you choose, you’ll complete between one and four written assignments, each ranging from 3,500 to 4,500 words.
At Level 7, you’re expected to demonstrate critical thinking, strategic insight, and the ability to apply leadership theory to real-world organisational challenges. Responses should blend academic rigour with practical application, drawing on your own leadership experience and context.
2. Vocational Focus
This is a vocational qualification, meaning your assignments are designed to be practical and relevant. While academic models, frameworks and theories are essential, you’ll be expected to contextualise your answers to reflect your professional setting and strategic responsibilities.
3. Specialist Tutorial Support
To help you succeed, you’ll have access to specialist tutorials with a member of our Leadership Development team. These sessions are designed to provide personalised guidance, clarify expectations, and support you in developing strong, evidence-based responses.
4. Executive Coaching
